Great America

Well I was at Paramount's Great America last Saturday. Man, they are putting something new in each year! But my favorite is still the Top Gun rise; a top-rail coaster that leaves your feet dangling and they did something to it so it actually SOUNDS like a jet as it flies by you.

Such an awesome coaster, intense ride that always packs a punch and a surprise.

Any other Top Gun/Great America fans out there?

Sweeeeeeeet! And I do so love that 1st car!

(Having never been to beautiful Cali-for-ni-a, I'll have to take your word on it, but I'm guessing you are probably 100% correct that it's a sweet ride!)

It's a B&M inverted, and basically a Batman clone. I'd say Magic Mountain's Batman is a little better overall, but Top Gun is still a really nice ride.

PGA is a fun little park. Aside from Top Gun, they've got a Vekoma Boomerang (which was the first in North America,) a really fun Arrow looper named Demon which has been in the park for about 30 years, a nice standup, a Montezooma's Revenge-type inline looper, and one of the worst wooden coasters in the world, Grizzly.

They also had one of the first laying down/flying/whatever coasters, Stealth, but I hear it's been torn down already, and I never got a chance to ride it.

I've been on Top Gun at Canada's Wonderland outside of Toronto, Canada. I don't recall any extra noises to simulate jet engines...just the regular coaster noises.... I definitly agree with the coolness of inverted coasters and I ALWAYS try to grab the first seat of any coaster....I like not being able to see what's comming up as you crest the rises...not quite the same effect if there are already cars going down before you....
