I'm planning a trip to Cedar Point sometime next year. I know they are only open for a few months out of the year, but I'd like suggestions on when might be the best time to go that'll avoid the huge crowds. I know at least one of you has been there... what are your favorite coasters (and/or thrill rides) at the park (in order)?

Re: Cedar Point
Fri, October 17, 2003 - 10:42 AMYou know, I'm not sure when the park opens for the year - but either tail end of the season or very beginning during AP previews is the best time. Of course it's bung-nipping COLD, but that only enhances your ride as you skirt Lake Erie. ; )
I haven't been on Top Thrill Dragster yet - but it looks like quite the killer. They've also got an impulse coaster called Wicked Twister, but that's close to an assembly line model that's sprouting up all over Six Flags parks (still an awesome ride!) You know my personal preference - here's my fave list:
1) Millennium Force - over 300 feet of droppage - that first hill is incredible!
2) Raptor - seems like such a simple little ride, but it'll kick your butt
3) Magnum XL-200 - a classic, and still bringing tears to my eyes
4) Mantis - the G forces on this puppy have forced blackouts upon hapless riders - it don't play.
5)Wildcat - just a little mouse coaster, but it delivers!
6) Blue Streak - I know you don't dig woodies, but this one is such a sweet little thang.
7) Gemini - part wood, part steel - presents a quandry, no?
8) Mean Streak - avoid if you get headaches, this woodie is all muscle
9) Disaster Transport - for pure cheese factor, you can't beat this Space Mountain On A Budget, which is actually a bobsled ride in the dark. "I'm losing control! I'm losing control!" Plastic asteroids and everything...
The rest are relatively tame steelies that are enjoyable, but ultimately forgettable in my book.
www.cedarpoint.com for park info. I wanna go with yooooou! Top Thrill Dragster looks like a real heart-mangler, I"M ALL ABOUT IT! -

Sun, October 19, 2003 - 4:05 PMCeadr Point has the best coasters in the world!!!! Top Thrill Dragster is the ride of your life, and so is Milleniun Force. DO NOT go towards the end of the year for Hallo-weekends.... It is the most crowded then. I know my husband and I get season passes yearly. It has been a madhouse there, the last 3 week-ends in a row. Very hard to get on rides,VERY long waits for coasters. I think you should go sometime in May,after the park opens. That is a good idea. Just bundle up,and go for it!!!

Hey Kristy Jo...
I can't remember what time of year I visited the coaster capital, but I'm pretty sure it was fall, just before the park closed for the season. The crowds were light and the weather was beautiful (bring a jacket).
The only drawback were the muffleheads! They're these little flying insects that come off the lakes and settle like a dense fog over the park. They were EVERYWHERE. Our park guide, Robin, said that they were a phenomenon that happened regularly, but I can't recall if it happens *every* year. You don't want your mouth to be open too much while you're zipping along the coaster track, believe me... it's a good idea to learn to scream through your nose. :)
As for my favorites... dood, I was only at the park once, several years ago, and we rode *so* many coasters that I can't remember which ones were what. I do remember that I loved Mantis (it had just opened that year) and the cute traditional Wild Mouse coaster was just fun... even though it was the straw that broke this camel's weakened stomach. :(
Tip: allow some time for stomach to settle between coasters.
And have an amazing time! -

Mon, October 27, 2003 - 10:35 AMI remember your exit from the Wildcat - it wasn't pretty. : ) But we had just hit our tenth coaster, and even I was starting to lose the ability to walk in a straight line.
