I'm planning on visiting the States this summer. I'll be in Ohio part of the time and heard that Cedar Point was THE rollercoaster park to go to. What's the lowdown on getting the most out of a visit there?

I've just looked back over previous posts and found loads of info on Cedar Point. No replies necessary, but always welcome!

I live nearby and went to school with the kids of the people that built it. I prefer it. I also like Kennywood in Pittsburgh quite a bit, it is more of an old fashioned park.

Just reviving this thread as I have another question about Cedar Point.

Just wondering about accommodation - whether it's better to book into one of the resort hotels or stay in a hotel somewhere nearby in the surrounding area?

Any pros or cons would be helpful.

That's entirely subjective and dependent on what's important to you.

Hotel Breakers is a nice place but a bit spendy; once there you don't have to deal with the front gate or driving over the causeway; wake up, have your breakfast, and walk into the park.

Staying outside the park generally means driving through Sandusky, heading over the causeway, and parking in the huge lot. Many of the motels in the area are rather good value since the compitition is so fierce.

I've done both. If you feel like spending the extra money, Breakers is the way to go, but there's nothing wrong with staying in Sandusky.

Thanks Eric, just what I was looking for. Succinct but informative advice from someone who has been there!!

I'll be travelling from England to Cleveland with my husband who's from that area originally. The trip is mostly a family affair but we've got maybe four days at the end to have a bit of fun on our own and my choice was Cedar Point (oh, and watching the Indians at Jacobs Field if poss).

Fact is, with only limited fun time and a return trip to that area unlikely in the near future, I'm going to try for Hotel Breakers. Your line "...wake up, have your breakfast, and walk into the park" sold me!!! I love the easy life. Europe is so expensive these days, I find it hard to believe Cedar Point could cost much more, and besides, the exchange rate is good for us at the moment!

You're a pal Eric, appreciate your help.
